Telebec provides LTE technology in Abitibi 2013-12-18

Télébec customers in Abitibi now have access to LTE (long-term evolution) technology, which is the fastest in the country and, until recently, was only available in major Canadian cities. This technology is the standard of excellence in wireless communications.

Télébec’s investment of 2 M$ means customers in selected areas now have access to the fastest download speeds: up to 75 mbps, or three times faster than current data transfer speeds. Télébec is the first telecommunications company to offer LTE technology on its mobile network in the Abitibi region.

“It’s a point of pride to see that our organization is able to offer its customers data transfer speeds that are as fast as they are in Canada’s largest urban centres," says Mary-Ann Bell, Senior Vice-President, Ontario and Québec, Bell Aliant.

The deployment plan included the update of three towers in both Rouyn-Noranda and Val-d’Or. A new tower has been added in Rouyn-Noranda and a new one will be built in Val-d’Or.
