Télébec extends its 4G network to Matagami 2011-07-14

Mobile phone customers in Matagami now have access to the largest and fastest network in the country thanks to the much-anticipated launch of Télébec’s 4G network. The 4G network can be used with a full range of new mobile phones, smart phones, tablets, and Turbo hubs and sticks, providing access to high speed Internet anywhere on the network.

“This $338,000 investment represents an incredible improvement to the current situation in terms of mobility in the Matagami region,” said Mary-Ann Bell, Senior Vice-President, Québec and Ontario, Bell Aliant. “The updating of our network will be complete by mid-2011 and will provide all Télébec customers with wireless access to the most advanced wireless network in the world.”

The 4G network offers mobile and wireless high speed Internet users download speeds of up to 21 Mbits/s (megabytes per second), and a whole range of devices from several manufacturers. Users can also benefit from international roaming services in more than 200 countries worldwide, including the U.S.

The HSPA+ network features the following benefits:

  • Download speeds of up to 21 Mbits/s for a full range of wireless devices;
  • Exceptional mobile products such as multimedia smart phones with Internet connection, including the iPhone, tablets and Turbo hubs;
  • International reach for Voice services in 200 countries (full international roaming in over 175 countries).

Télébec is delighted that the 4G network ensures the most efficient gateway for upgrading to next-generation wireless technology. The current CDMA network will continue to operate in parallel.
