Télébec installs its first Voice over IP server network 2003-08-14

August 14, 2003 - Télébec recently installed its very first Voice over IP telecommunications server at the Commission scolaire Pierre-Neveu at Mont-Laurier.

In cooperation with Bell and Cisco Systems, the various components of the network of the Polyvalente Saint-Joseph, Centre Christ-Roy, Centre de formation professionnelle, Pavillon Saint-Joseph and Centre administratif were modified or upgraded so they could function with IP (Internet Protocol) telephony.

This technology of the future lets you combine, for instance, voice, data and video. The object of telephony on IP is to transmit telephony data over an IP network with transmission quality and reliability comparable to those of the conventional telephone network.

More and more companies have LANs (local area networks) and are therefore able to take advantage of Voice over IP for less cost. By integrating voice and data, IP telephony simplifies network administration by centralizing everything on a single network. In conventional telephony, everything is hardware-based, whereas IP telephony uses a software-based architecture.

Here is an efficient and economical technology that promises a significant increase in the number of Voice over IP users for years to come.
