Télébec Mobilité offers digital technology in the Senneterre, Louvicourt and Mont-Vidéo areas 2003-05-21

May 21, 2003 - By the end of May, Télébec Mobilité cell phone subscribers will have access to digital coverage in the Senneterre, Louvicourt and Mont-Vidéo areas. This stage in Télébec Mobilité’s major project to rollout a digital network across the utility’s service area required an investment of close to $750 000. The project was launched only 18 months ago, yet Télébec Mobilité has already introduced this leading-edge technology in the La Sarre, Amos, Mont-Laurier, Val-d’Or and Rouyn-Noranda, areas, as well as along the highway between Val-d’Or and Rouyn-Noranda.

The main advantages of digital technology are guaranteed call confidentiality, greater reliability, long-lasting cell-phone batteries and access to a range of sophisticated applications.

"Among other things, Télébec Mobilité offers the Mobile Browser, which subscribers can use to surf the Internet, check their e-mail, find out the latest news, weather or film schedules, perform financial transactions or even play game, directly on their digital cell phone,” explains Natalie Frackleton, General Manager – Product Management. “Subscribers can also use our Télégr@f option, a two-way text messaging service, or set up their cell phone as a cordless modem for their computer with the help of a connectivity kit available at authorized agents,” she continues.

By superposing the digital network on the existing analog network, both technologies can be used. In other words, a user with a cell phone—a digital or an analog phone—can use the phone on either network.

"It’s important to understand," says Natalie Frackleton, "that current or future customers who would like to use digital technology can do so very easily. And they can also take advantage of a promotional program offering attractive discounts on the new digital phones as well as free trial periods for our new applications. "

In making digital technology available, Télébec Mobilité proves once again that it is a vibrant force in the community and, above all, that it listens closely to what its customers have to say.
