Speed Calling

Create shortcuts for your most frequently dialed numbers with Speed Calling. With this service, you can program up to 8 (or 30) local or long distance numbers with codes that you can then dial instead of the whole number.

To program a number
  • Lift the receiver and listen for the dial tone.
  • Dial *74 (1174 on rotary phone) and listen for three beeps followed by the dial tone.
  • Dial a code between 2 and 9 (or 20 and 49).
  • And dial the telephone number you want to program. For long distance numbers, don't forget to dial 1 and the area code.
  • Listen for two beeps. Hang up. The telephone number and its code are now programmed.

To remove a Speed Calling code

  • Lift the receiver and listen for the dial tone.
  • Dial *74 (1174 on rotary phone) and listen for three beeps followed by the dial tone.
  • Dial the code for the telephone number you want removed.
  • Listen for busy signal. Hang up.

To use Speed Calling

  • Lift the receiver and listen for the dial tone.
  • Dial a code between 2 and 9 (or 20 and 49). The number is dialed automatically.

If you subscribe to Three-Way Calling, you can use Speed Calling to dial the number of the person you want to bring into the conversation.

If you subscribe to Call Forwarding, you can use Speed Calling to dial the number to which you want to forward your calls
