I've lost my Télébec Calling Card. Should I cancel it to prevent other people from charging calls to my account?

For your protection, your PIN (personal identification number) does not appear on your Télébec Calling Card. It consists of four digits and it is delivered to you at the same time as your Calling Card.

If you did not write your PIN on your Calling Card, then it is impossible for anybody else to use it.  For security reasons, Télébec does not print the last four digits (PIN) on its cards. You must notify Télébec about the loss of your card.

If I am in an overseas country and I use my Télébec Calling Card, what charges will I be billed?

If you use an operator to make your call, the call set-up charge will be $7.50 plus the minutes priced according to the originating country.

To find out what the rate is for a long distance call made from an overseas country, contact Télébec's Customer Service or call an operator by dialing 0 (zero).

If I use the "pound" (#) key on my phone to make successive long distance calls with my Télébec Calling Card, how much will I be billed for call set-up charges?

There is a $3.50 charge for each successive call you make. Using the "pound" (#) key just saves you from having to enter your Calling Card number each time.

How is the charge determined for a call placed with my Calling Card?

Here are the criteria used for calculating the charge for a long distance call:

Télébec's rates apply to any call, provided that the call originates from or terminates in Télébec territory. The rates include discounts during off-peak periods and those offered under your Télébec long distance plan according to the terms of your plan.

What are Télébec's off-peak discount periods?

You get a 15% discount on your long distance calls between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. on weekdays and all weekend. These discounts apply to long distance calls to Quebec, other Canadian provinces, and the United States.

I am a Télébec customer. If I make to Montréal, what rate will I be charged?

When the call does not originate in Télébec territory (Toronto) and is not directed to a destination in Télébec territory (Montreal), the charge for the call is based on the rates of the telephone company from where the call is placed (in this case, Toronto). Also, if the originating telephone company offers discounts during off-peak periods, these discounts will have already been calculated (included) in the discount amount indicated on your Télébec bill.

What types of calls are not eligible for my Télébec long distance plan?

For a long distance call to be eligible for your long distance plan, it must be a station-to-station call, placed with your Télébec Calling Card and whose originating or terminating point is in Canada.

For example, if you are outside of Canada and you use your Calling Card to place a call to another location also outside of Canada (e.g., Florida to New York or Florida to Paris), this call will not be eligible for the savings under your Télébec long distance plan, since neither the originating or the termination point of the call is located in Canada.

I am not a Télébec customer. Can I get a Télébec Calling Card?

Yes, you can obtain a Télébec Calling Card without being a Télébec telephone service subscriber. We will issue you a so-called "fictitious" Calling Card and all calls made with this card will be applied to a "fictitious" Télébec bill. A "fictitious" Calling Card carries a telephone number that is used only to record long distance calls placed with this card. This number cannot be used for any other purposes.

This service is extremely practical, if, for instance, you live with another person and you do not want your long distance calls to be included on the same bill. Télébec will issue you a "fictitious" Calling Card free of charge and all charges for long distance calls placed with your Calling Card will be charged to a separate bill addressed to your attention.

You must contact a Customer Service agent to order a “fictitious” Calling Card.

I have a business in Télébec territory. Can I find out the dates, durations and places of long distance calls made by my employees?

Yes, you can. Simply order Télébec Calling Cards free, with different numbers for each of your employees. These Calling Cards are "fictitious", as each of them will carry a telephone number that is only used for recording long distance calls placed with this card. The number cannot be used for any other purposes.

The Télébec telephone bill you receive will then provide you with the details of the calls made for each "fictitious" Calling Card number.

You must contact a Customer Service agent to order a “fictitious” Calling Card.

There were two of us using the same Télébec Calling Card. The other person is no longer living with me. Should I have this person's Calling Card cancelled?

Yes. Call a Customer Service now. For added security, we will issue you a new Calling Card with a new personal identification number (PIN). If you do not cancel your current Calling Card, you will remain liable for all calls this person may make with his or her Calling Card, as the charges for these calls will be applied to your telephone bill.
