Télébec Mobilité launches its recycling program 2005-10-25

Being an environmentally responsible company, Télébec Mobilité is launching a cellular phone, battery, and accessory recycling program: Recycler, réutiliser et recomposer. [recycle, reuse and rebuild]

The program was created in collaboration with ReCellular, a leader in cellular phone recycling, and with authorized Télébec Mobilité dealers. Consumers who wish to participate in the program can bring their old phones to any authorized dealer, whether the phones were purchased from Télébec Mobilité or from any other company. Batteries and accessories are also being collected.

Generosity and ecology

All items collected will be sent to ReCellular. They will be refurbished, recycled or disposed of in an environmentally sound way, and the refurbished items will be donated to different charities across the country. Therefore, participating in the program becomes both a generous and an ecological gesture.

The phones that cannot be refurbished will be taken apart and their components will be recycled. The only parts that cannot be recycled at present are the rubber keypads. But keypad-recycling methods are currently being studied.

So as to protect the personal information of those who donate their phones as part of the Recycler, réutiliser et recomposer program, all the data in memory, such as contacts’ telephone numbers and email addresses, will be erased when the phones are sorted for either recycling or refurbishing.

“Thanks to the Recycler, réutiliser et recomposer program, people can get involved in a simple but significant way. Merging these recycling and donation programs truly reflects Télébec Mobilité’s commitment to the community”, affirmed Marc Bertrand, Executive director costumer care.
